Home > Improvement Zone > 4x4 Guides > How to Solve a 4x4 Rubik's Cube
In this tutorial we will learn how to solve a 4x4x4 speed cube. We have split this guide into 3 easy to follow steps which also include an easy to follow video. The walkthrough has been written for intermediate cubers who can already solve a 3x3 with the CFOP (or beginners) method.
Please Note: We are using a GAN 460 4x4 M in this tutorial, Images are just for illustrative purposes only.
We solve all 6 centres as the image above shows. Also making sure to build them on the correct faces.
We solve the edge pairs 1 by 1, not positioning them yet though. In the next step we will shuffle them about.
We then solve the rest of the 4x4 as if it were a 3x3. If we encounter parity we will learn how to solve it.
In step 1 we are going to solve the centers of the 4x4. This is a fairly intuitive step but there are a few things you may need to know. Let's jump on in.
In step 2 we are going to learn how to solve the edges of the 4x4 Rubik's cube and learn how to solve the last 2 edges of the 4x4 too.
In step 3 we are going to use a basic 3x3 method and algorithms to solve the 4x4 Rubik's cubes just like a 3x3 cube. This is a fairly easy step if you started cubing on a 3x3 and moved up to a 4x4.
Unlike a 3x3, on a 4x4 Rubik's cube you can encounter a couple of weird cases that don't seem to be solvable like a normal 3x3. These cases are called parity and require you to learn a very long algorithm to solve your cube. Let's take a look at the 4x4 Parity cases. we have written a seperate article title "How to solve Parity on a 4x4".
